A Johnson County man was arrested on drug charges.
Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says that 32-year-old Santiago Jesus Heiny, of Franklin, was arrested early Monday morning as police executed a search warrant at his apartment at 750 W. Madison St.
According to authorities, the search warrant came about after police received information on Dec. 18 that Heiny was allegedly distributing marijuana and "making irrational statements." A concerned citizen also told police that Heiny possessed numerous firearms. The Johnson County Sheriff's Department SWAT Team executed the "no-knock" warrant at 6 a.m.
In the course of executing the warrant, investigators allegedly found drugs, paraphernalia, cash and illegal weapons. Sheriff Cox says investigators located one tablet each of Darvocet and Oxycodone, both controlled substances, over 78 grams of marijuana, digital scales, paraphernalia, two military-issued trip flares and a shotgun with a barrel length of 25.5 inches. In Indiana, for a shotgun to be legal, the barrel must be at least 26 inches long. A total of nine guns were recovered, including a hand gun that was in Heiny's vehicle. He allegedly told police that he used it for personal protection, despite not having a license to carry it. Authorities also located a cell phone that Heiny allegedly used in drug transactions, as well as $279 in cash.
Heiny was arrested and is facing two counts of possession of a controlled substance, dealing marijuana, possessing more than 30 grams of marijuana and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. He was booked in the Johnson County Jail.
