Edinburgh Police officers are now being dispatched from the Johnson County Emergency Operations Center in Franklin.
Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann says the move is being made so the police department is in compliance with the directives of the state legislature who determined the need for a single public safety answering point in each county. Mann says in the near future, every emergency unit based in Johnson County will be dispatched from the emergency operations center.
Even though Edinburgh sits inside Bartholomew, Shelby and Johnson counties, all 911 calls will be handled through the center. You can still call 911 for emergencies and the police department at 526-2636 for non-emergency calls.
Mann noted that the front desk at the police department will be open during normal business hours for administrative matters. You should also call 526-2636 if you need to speak to an officer. An emergency call box has been placed at the front door of the station that will ring directly to 911 emergency dispatchers.
