Officials with Human Services Inc. and Childhood Connections are pleased to announce the transition of the Route 21 Program for pregnant and parenting teens with funding support from the United Way of Bartholomew County.
Starting this month, Route 21, a local program to support and provide resources for pregnant and parenting teens, will be delivered by Human Services, Inc. Route 21 works with young mothers and fathers with the goal of linking new parents to services that help them balance parenting responsibilities with continuing education to become college and career-ready.
Current Route 21 participants are strongly encouraged to stay in the program which will continue to offer individualized-case management, education and referral services for young mothers and fathers through age 21.
Pregnant and parenting teens looking to join the program may call 812-372-8407 for more information about services offered. Human Services Inc. looks forward to establishing relationships with referring organizations and also welcomes volunteers interested in supporting Route 21's work.
After extensive evaluation, Childhood Connections' board decided last June to close the agency and partner with United Way of Bartholomew County, Route 21's primary funder, to ensure that teen pregnancy and prevention programming continues within the community after the agency dissolves. This decision was based on current status of funding and staffing after the state consolidated the Child Care Resource and Referral program.
