The Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board recently met for the first time this year.
Larry Simpson of "The Hope Star-Journal" reports that the board members conducted the election of officers.
Andy Hunnicutt was re-elected to serve as president; Steven Wilson was elected as vice-president; Greg Spurling will continue to serve as Secretary.
The board reappointed Jeff Cleland as corporation treasurer; Missy Dempsey as assistant treasurer; and Chuck Wells Jr. was reappointed as corporate attorney.
Superintendent Dr. Kathy Griffey recommended approval of the 2013-14 Non-Certified Pay Scale and 2013-14 Non-Certified Staff Pay Increase. The pay scale and pay increase does not include "grandfathered" individuals who will instead receive a 1.5 percent increase this year. The board approved the proposal. The new pay scale and pay increase will be retroactive to the beginning of the school year. Griffey says it should take two pay-cycles to fully institute the change.
Dr. Griffey also presented a recommendation by Jimmy Tedder to approve the hiring of Indiana Door and Hardware Specialties to upgrade the cafeteria kitchen and adjoining courtyard doors at a cost of $34,250. The upgrade is necessary in order to maintain a standard in line with the requirements for the cafeteria to serve as a tornado shelter. The board approved the project, which will take place during spring break.
