The ColumBUS Transit service will extend its hours during the week beginning Monday.
The new hours will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. These new hours apply to both the fixed-route Transit system and the paratransit Call-a-Bus system.
The new schedule adds an additional hour during the week and decreases the Saturday schedule by one hour in the evening, when fewer riders access the service. The last fixed-routerun will leave the Mill Race Station depot at 7:05 p.m. on week nights, but service will continue along the route until 8:00 p.m.
Mayor Kristen Brown said the changes were the result of a five-month study of how riders used the services. “We conducted a comprehensive survey of our Transit services, and extending the hours was the second most requested improvement after adding a route on Jonathan Moore Pike,” said Brown. “The new hours will better accommodate our community members’ work schedules and give them an opportunity to shop or run errands after work before going home.”
Fixed route service is 25 cents per person per trip. Call-a-Bus is an origin to destination 50 cent ride provided for persons who are unable to access the fixed routes because of disability, age or injury.
