Two men, including one from Jackson County, were arrested by Indiana State Police Sunday evening in Scott County.
ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Jerry Goodin says that Trooper Rob Caudill from the Sellersburg Post stopped a black SUV on U.S. Highway 31 near State Road 56 for driving without headlights. During the traffic stop, the driver, 43-year-old Kevin N. Smith, of Seymour, was found to be driving on a suspended drivers license.
Smith and his passenger, 38-year-old Kevin C. Lucas, from Scottsburg, got out of the vehicle so it could be inventoried before being impounded. When Lucas exited the vehicle, Trooper Caudill says a small zipper bag fell from his person on to the floor of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, police allegedly found two hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia in the bag. Both men were arrested and booked in the Scott County Jail.
Smith was charged with driving while suspended with a prior conviction. Lucas was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle with a prior conviction and possession of drug paraphernalia.
