The Jennings County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting that took place Tuesday morning just north of Butlerville.
Brenda Bowers told police that she had discovered 28-year-old Daniel Sidwell in her 16-year-old granddaughter's bedroom. Bowers granddaughter had reportedly let Sidwell into the home without Bowers' consent.
Bowers reportedly retrieved a .22 caliber handgun and confronted the man. At some point, the gun went off, striking Sidwell in the right ankle. Sidwell fled from the home and was later found by sheriff's deputies in a wooded area approximately one hundred yards from the Bowers' home. Deputies took Sidwell to a waiting ambulance. He was then transported to the Emergency Room at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital, before being transferred to an Indianapolis Hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed. Information will be turned over to the Jennings County Prosecutors Office for review once the investigation is complete. For more on this story, visit our website.
