Three people are being held on charges of receiving property stolen from a Columbus store, after a Brown County homeowner detained them at gunpoint Tuesday.
The Brown County Sheriff's Department reported that dispatchers received a 911 call from a Locust Grove Road man at 10:42 a.m. Tuesday who said he was holding a man and woman at gunpoint in his driveway.
Sheriff Rick Followell said the incident started when the homeowner received text messages from his son indicating that the son was being held against his will and the abductors were bringing him to the Brown County home. When the car arrived, the homeowner saw the driver try unsuccessfully to open the home's garage door. The driver was walking toward the front door while putting on gloves, when the homeowner confronted him with the gun, Followell said.
There is no indication the homeowner's son was ever being held against his will, Followell said. The homeowner held the two other occupants of the car at gunpoint until deputies and officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene and arrested the two and the man's son, Followell said.
The three were found to be in possession of items believed stolen from a Columbus Walmart including clothing, watches and gloves, Followell said.
All were held in lieu of $2,500 bond on charges of receiving stolen property.
