The standoff that occurred Monday morning in Taylorsville that resulted in the arrest of 26-year-old Zachary Baker and the suicide of Baker's stepfather, 44-year-old Richard Morris, both of Waterford, MI has cleared several home invasion investigations and an armed robbery in Waterford, as well as providing key information in serious criminal investigations in Florida.
According to Indiana State Police Detective Roger Drew, within 10 hours of the end of Monday's standoff, investigators from Waterford Police and Sheriff's Departments in Michigan and investigators from Pasco County, Florida arrived in Columbus. As a result of this joint investigation and evidence collected from the hotel room and the suspect's pickup truck, many crimes have been resolved. Investigators say the information garnered helped in solving numerous home invasions and an armed robbery in Michigan. In addition, evidence was located which could be key to solving two active double homicide cases in Florida.
Detective Drew commented, "The assistance of the public and the cooperative efforts and teamwork between the Indiana State Police, Columbus Police Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department and investigators from both Michigan and Florida has resulted in solving some very serious crimes in multiple states." Detective Drew went on to further state, "The willingness of the public to get involved has proven to be a very key part of this investigation."
While the participation of Indiana law enforcement in this investigation is winding down, authorities from Michigan and Florida continue to investigate the crimes related to this incident within their jurisdictions.
