A series of accidents Tuesday night on Interstate 65 in Bartholomew County has claimed at least one life and shut down the highway.
Maj. Todd Noblitt, spokesman for the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, said the chain of four accidents started around 9 p.m. with an accident north of Edinburgh.
The last of the four, at about the 75-mile-marker, just south of the Edinburgh exit, led to the death. The Indiana State Police were working at the scene of that accident. No further details were available on the victim as of 10 p.m. Tuesday and rescue workers were still at the scene.
In one of the accidents preceding the fatality a semi-trailer crashed into the barrier cable and ruptured its fuel tank, dumping about 100 gallons of diesel fuel on the roadside, Noblitt said.
