Two Columbus East students will receive this year's Lilly Endowment Community scholarships for Bartholomew County.
Amy Laker, the scholarship manager for The Heritage Fund - the Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, announced that the fund has named Columbus East High School seniors Madel Presto and Seth Frownfelter as this year's recipients.
The program provides full tuition for four years to the Indiana college of the students' choice and a $900 annual stipend for books and equipment.
Madel, daughter of Jonas and Jannette Presto, is both marching band and winter percussion section leader, symphonic band first chair, Key Club president, National Honor Society vice president and has served as president and vice president of Spanish National Honor Society. Madel also is director of the a cappella musical group the Acalympians. Her community involvement includes volunteering through Key Club, Stained Glass Choir at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Salvation Army and Fireman’s Cheer Fund. Madel plans to attend the University of Evansville to major in musical therapy and/or music arrangement.
Seth, son of Robert and Tammy Frownfelter, is captain of East’s varsity football and swimming teams. He is a member of National and Spanish National Honor Societies and earned Indiana High School Association Academic All-State honors in football. Seth is the recipient of the 2013 Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award for Class 4A Football. He has been active in Big Brothers Big Sisters, Turning Point Dance Marathon and has been a Bible School youth and peer mentor. Seth plans to study business or law at Butler University or Indiana University.
Heritage Fund received 74 applications for this year’s scholarships.
