Elizabethtown residents will have a tornado siren to warn them of weather dangers, under a grant accepted Monday by Bartholomew County Commissioners.
Commissioners President Carl Lienhoop said the town raised more than $4,000 and the grant will pay for the rest of the $19,000 cost.
Lienhoop said that an Elizabethtown couple, Fred and Rebecca Barnett, have been pushing for improvements to the community and have been trying to find money for projects for the town. Rebecca is the one who found the grant to fund the siren, Lienhoop said.
"This will be a big improvement out there and we would like to see more small towns out in the county go this route to help protect its citizens," Lienhoop said.
