A final draft plan for State Street in Columbus includes some suggestions for the Bartholomew County owned annex building and county highway garage sites.
The city paid for the study and will present it to the public next week. Bartholomew County Council is scheduled to hold a special meeting tomorrow night to discuss funding for an annex building replacement.
The city plan suggests the County Annex Building be used for potential senior or multi-family housing. The study also suggests the annex grounds could become a new public green space and gathering spot for farmer markets and special events.
Jeff Bergman, director of the city and county planning department, says the city plan suggests opportunities at the county-owned sites, but doesn't mandate anything.
"The plan certainly recognizes that there are opportunities presented by the annex site and also by the county highway garage -- which the county has mentioned either wanting to replace or to rehabilitate at some point," Bergman said. "The plan recognizes that and provides a few options. It isn't necessarily dependent on one outcome or another from the process the county is currently undergoing."
The city will present the final draft presentation for the State Street plan at an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 28 at City Hall.
County Council will meet at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Governmental Office Building on Third Street.
