Duke Energy has awarded a $10,000 matching grant for improvements at the Seymour East Side Industrial Park. The funds will be used toward the industrial park's new wastewater lift station project.
"We appreciate being selected to participate in the Duke Energy Site Readiness Program," said Jim Plump, executive director of the Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation. "Duke Energy has been a strong partner in our efforts to attract and retain industries that offer good-paying jobs for our citizens."
Also partnering in the project is the Community Foundation of Jackson County, which will be making a gift toward the match.
"Duke Energy is pleased to assist the communities we serve to develop greater economic development opportunities," said Mike Heaton, Duke Energy economic development manager. "When local and regional economies grow, it helps improve the quality of life for all residents."
The Seymour Industrial Park was one of five sites chosen to participate in Duke Energy's 2013 Site Readiness Program. Duke officials say that the Site Readiness Program is a key element of the utility's economic development model, which identifies, evaluates, and improves the industrial sites in the company's service territory to help communities compete for new companies and jobs.
