Divers recovered the body of a missing Franklin teen from Big Blue River Sunday.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana Conservation Officer divers located Jason Moran, 17 of Franklin, at 10:22 Sunday. His body was at the base of the dam in Edinburgh, in close proximity to where he was last seen.
The water at the dam had receded enough that divers felt it was safe to attempt a search of the area just below the dam that was too treacherous over the past few days.
Authorities say Moran had been swimming with friends when they all became trapped in raging waters while trying to rescue 16-year-old Sarah McLevish, -- who had been swept over the Edinburgh Dam. McLevish and 16-year-old Michael Chadbourne remain in critical condition. Two other teens were not injured. All five teens attend Franklin Community High School.
DNR officials say that at approximately 12:15 p.m. Friday, authorities were dispatched to the Big Blue River near State Road 252 in Johnson County for a report of multiple people distressed in the water. Initial reports indicated that the five teenagers were swimming just north of a low-head dam when one of them was swept over the dam.
