Columbus comes close to All-America city award

The city of Columbus was one of 25 finalists for the All-America City Awards, but didn't make the final list of 10 cities chosen yesterday in Denver, Colorado.

Mayor Kristen Brown said that this was the first time in two decades that Columbus applied for the prestigious All-America City Award. Columbus receive the award when it applied in 1994.

"The All-America City Awards are the Super Bowl of civic achievement, and we were honored to be on the playing field with these other great communities," Brown said in a press release.

The awards are given by the National Civic League, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes civic engagement and inclusive forms of community building and problem solving. The primary emphasis of this year’s awards was Healthy Community initiatives and results.

Brown said the All-America City Awards provided the Columbus delegation the opportunity to share progress with other communities and learn how other communities are addressing their challenges.
