A Jennings County Jail employee has lost her job and was arrested Monday after an investigation stemming from reports she was having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

Jennings County Sheriff's Department Major Jerry Shepherd says that 30-year-old Christy A. Ramirez, of Commiskey, faces charges of sexual misconduct and trafficking with an inmate. When questioned by detectives, Ramirez allegedly admitted to the sexual misconduct charge. Each of those charges are punishable by one to six years in prison with a state recommended minimum sentence of three years upon conviction.

That inmate had been assigned as part of a work crew to the kitchen area when the incidents reportedly occurred. Ramirez also worked in food services. Ramirez also said she provided the use of a cellphone to inmates, which led to the trafficking charge, Shepherd said.

Ramirez was booked into the jail late Monday night and is being held without bond.
