There are still a few spots available in the Junior Master Naturalist Course that will be held at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge from July 21 through July 25.
Park Ranger Donna Stanley says the course is for children ages 9 to 13. She says the program will consist of half-day morning programs on plants, wildlife, geology, wetlands, and other natural resource topics.
The week-long program will be held at the refuge Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. A $20 fee is payable at the first class to cover course materials. Stanley says that students will be expected to attend all of the sessions and complete some volunteer work to receive a Junior Master Naturalist patch and certificate.
Advance registration is required and parents or guardians must sign a permission slip at the first class meeting. The Junior Master Naturalist course is sponsored by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society.
