The Columbus Redevelopment Commission will hear a presentation tonight on a new plan for State Street improvements.
Under the proposal, the East Columbus neighborhood would be connected with downtown through a series of multi-use sidewalks and the look of the street would be improved with pocket parks. The trail, as proposed, would stretch between Lafayette Avenue and Indiana Avenue/Mapleton Street.
The redevelopment commission controls spending from the city's tax increment financing districts and while East Columbus is not in a TIF area, cities are allowed to spend outside those zones, if the development in a neighboring area will benefit the district, city officials said..
The State Street plan is just up for discussion tonight, but supporters of the East Columbus neighborhood are expected to turn out to voice their opinions.
The redevelopment commission meets at 6 p.m. tonight in Columbus City Hall.
