Students attending Flat Rock-Hawcreek schools see an added layer of security this morning thanks to a grant from Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
The Hope Star-Journal reports that there will be a new phone system at each main entrance, and a new intercom and camera system in place. Transportation and Facilities Director Jimmy Tedder tells the Hope paper that members of the public who want to enter school facilities must first be cleared by an employee through the intercom and once they are buzzed in they can only access the main office. There they will be issued a badge, Tedder said.
The total cost for the upgrades was $22,950. Of that, the district was awarded $11,475 by the state.
