Columbus is a semi-finalist in the running to become a "Way to Wellville" community.
Beth Morris, Director of Community Health Partnerships at Columbus Regional Health, says this is a designation sought by many communities across the country. She explains that 44 communities entered the competition. Sixteen were considered and ten were chosen for a site visit. Members of the selection committee visited Columbus Monday. Members of the visiting committee were Esther Dyson, founder of HICCup, Rick Brush, CEO of HICCup and Marcia Conner, an executive adviser.
Once all ten site visits are completed, five finalists will be selected. They will compete based on five measurables to determine which has community helped their residents improve their health the most over a five year period. Morris says that being a part of this competition, and winning, could open a lot of philanthropical doors for Columbus.
The announcement naming the five winning communities is expected August 15.
