The Columbus Police Department (CPD) has a new officer in its ranks after Tuesday's swearing in of 26-year-old Lukas Nibarger by Mayor Kristen Brown.

Nibarger was sworn in during the weekly meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety. CPD Spokesman Sgt. Matt Harris says that Nibarger is a native of Johnson County and graduate of Franklin Community High School.  He went on to graduate from the University of Indianapolis in May of 2011 with a degree in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation, Nibarger was hired by the University of Indianapolis Police Department.

Officer Nibarger is expected to begin his new duties after completing the Columbus Police Department's Field Training Program.
