Public asked for input on Columbus police

The public will have several chances next week to weigh in on the professionalism and qualifications of the Columbus Police Department.

Assessors for the C
ommission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies will be in Columbus Sunday through Tuesday, said Police Chief Jon Rohde. The city is working to receive accreditation from the organization and will be evaluated on up to 188 standards of professional law enforcement excellence.

Rohde said that the assessors would take public phone calls from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at 812-376-2625. The line will not be recorded so members of the public can feel free to talk about whatever they want with the assessors.

There will also be a public meeting starting at 7 p.m. Monday at the City Hall Council Chambers, Rohde said.

Written comments may be sent to
the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155-6693, or by e-mail at calea@calea.org. If you send e-mail, include the phrase "Columbus (IN) P.D. On-site" in the subject line.
