Driver dies after being hit by Tony Stewart's car

Columbus NASCAR racer Tony Stewart was involved in an accident Saturday night that killed a driver on a New York state dirt track. Stewart struck a driver walking on the track after a spinout during the Lucas Oil SuperSprint Feature Race Saturday night at Canandiagua Motorsports Park in Canandiagua, N.Y., according to a press release from the Ontario County Sheriff's Department. The driver of the car and Stewart were involved in an incident on the track that sent the driver's car into a spinout, hitting a wall. After the spinout, the driver exited his vehicle and was walking on the track pointing at Stewart, when Stewart and another driver approached on the next lap. The first of the two cars swerved to avoid the on-foot driver but Stewart hit the driver. The driver was treated on medical personnel at the track and then taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's department said Stewart is cooperating with the investigation.
