The Columbus Park Foundation and its members are gearing up to raise funds to benefit the State Street Project and expand the city's People Trails System.
April Williams, the foundation's Project & Resource Development Director, says this year's "Sneakers at Starlight" event, and proceeds will be dedicated to both projects. She is encouraging you to support the project to bring walking and biking trails to east side residents and businesses.
To kick off the event, Williams says a "Sneakers Creative Studio" is planned for Friday, August 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at IUCA+D. Attendees are encouraged to bring shoes to decorate in a '70's style design to fit the theme of this year's event. She notes that the most creative sneakers will be displayed in area restaurants that are sponsoring the event. Patrons will be encouraged to vote for the best decorated sneakers in the weeks leading up to the event and the winner will be announced on Friday, September 5. The winner will receive free tickets to "Sneakers at Starlight."
The event itself will be held the evening of Friday, September 12 at the Mill Race Round Lake. Williams says the lake will be transformed into a "colorful and illuminated scene." She adds that this celebration will feature live music, local food, and beer and wine tastings.
