Columbus and the Greater Bartholomew County Area was not chosen to compete in the Way to Wellville competition as one of the Wellville Five. Representatives from Reach Healthy Communities and Columbus Regional Health Foundation (CRHF) received that news on Thursday.
CRH Public Relations Specialist Kelsey DeClue says that instead, this area will participate as one of the lead communities of the Greater Wellville initiative, which aims to round up the 40-plus communities that applied for the challenge and create a network to engage in peer learning.
The Way to Wellville initiative is sponsored by HICCup (Health Initiative Coordinating Council), a non-profit venture focused on enabling community health transformation and backed by venture capitalist and philanthropist and technology icon Esther Dyson.
"Naturally, we are disappointed not to be picked as a Wellville Five, however we are honored to be asked to help lead Greater Wellville. The practices and initiatives that we already have in place, combined with the enthusiasm for future growth and improvement, have made our community an example to other communities seeking change," said Healthy Communities director Beth Morris. "I want to thank all those involved in the process for their passion for and commitment to community health.
