FRHC Board President faces challlenge

Andy Hunnicutt, current Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board president, will face Glen Keller for the Flat Rock district seat in this fall’s FRHC school board race.

Our news gathering partners at the "Hope Star-Journal" report that Keller, a former principal and superintendent for FRHC, filed his required paperwork with the county election office on August 7. Hunnicutt filed on August 11.

Hunnicutt, a local farmer, also heads the soccer program for the school corporation. He will have served for four and half years on the school board. He has served as school board president for the past two years.

“We got caught in the change from being elected at Primary to being elected in November,” explained Hunnicutt in regard to the half year. “So everybody in the current cycle worked an extra six months.”

“I would like to continue the good work we’ve been doing for the past four years,” said Hunnicutt.

Glen Keller began his career teaching at Petersville Elementary School and was the school's principal from 1959-1965.  In 1965, he began his career as principal of Hauser Jr./Sr. High School until he moved on to become the corporation's superintendent in 1985, a position he held until 1995. From 1995 to 2012, he worked for an school architecture firm traveling the state.

“I've visited every superintendent's office in the state. It was really great to be in all the different offices,” said Keller.

On his reason to enter the school board race, Keller commented, “Mainly there is a need. I just want to see things run better and it seems like the right thing to do. Hopefully, we can do something and everyone can be proud. That's the whole goal.”

Individuals have until noon on August 22 to file the required paperwork as a candidate for the local school board election.
